Queen of the Tyne, RMS Mauretania was built at Swan Hunter in Wallsend and was the fastest and largest ship of her day. She held the Blue Riband record for crossing the Atlantic, for 20 years from 1909 until 1929, and she represents the pinnacle of shipbuilding during the golden age of ocean liners.
