Toast the Admiral! Trafalgar Day 2024
21st Oct 2024 by Luan Hanratty
There was an excellent turnout for Trafalgar Day at the TVLB Watch House. We were given a tot of rum and Commodore Thomas Knowles gave a powerful speech where he described Collingwood as a great man and someone who didn’t follow orders without thought, saving the lives of many men that day by not anchoring at Trafalgar following the battle.
A bit disappointing we didn’t conduct the toast on Collingwood’s Monument due to “high winds”. It wasn’t very windy at all though. What would Nelson say…!
On the ferry back Captain Trevor Errington kindly showed me the Collingwood Bar below deck, decorated with images of the battle alongside portraits of Nelson and Collingwood. 🍷
